Shootout Victory Secures Third Straight Championship

The Hilliard Junior Varsity team defeated Dayton 2-1 in a shootout to secure their third straight Columbus Blue Jackets Cup championship this past weekend.

Jared Pallay would score the only goal in regulation, in what was a very closely contested game against a skilled Dayton Stealth. After the clock ran out on the third period, the teams were deadlocked at a 1-1 tie. A subsequent 5-minute 4-on-4 overtime period did not resolve the draw, so the teams advanced to a 3-man shootout.

In the shootout, all three of Hilliard's shooters (Robbie Slivon, Jared Palley and Owen Ambrozy) were able to score on the Dayton goaltender. Those offensive efforts were matched only by Hilliard Goaltender, and tournament MVP, Gavin Williams, who gave up only one goal in the shootout.

The Wildcats were led to victory by Head Coach Bobby Shepherd, notched his third straight CBJ Cup title, and Assistant Coach Ken Snyder. The victory also secured the team's regular season championship as well.
